This is amazing stuff. He thinks that regular juco transfers should be subject to SEC rules for juco athletes. Pssssst hey Dad, the SEC is an athletic
organization and has nothing to do with regular admission to an University. Universities have differing admission standards, but all SEC athletes have to go
through the same SEC standards. Non athletes aren't subject to SEC rules because they're not athletes. This is unreal

I guarantee you that most any JUCO student who is | #1

transferring to UT to get a 4 year degree (and is NOT playing sports) will do so with transferable math (3 hours) and transferable English (6 hours). I'm
sure there are rare exceptions. Somebody needs to consult a UT catalog for transfer students and then plaster the results in a new thread for all to see. I
suspect they are as stringent or equal to what the SEC is imposing.

"Bit by bit, year by year, the Big Orange glow has dimmed. Too many key losses in too many big games since '98 have removed Tennessee from the elite list of teams annually considered as national championship contenders. It takes more than one of the biggest stadiums in college football and a nifty fight song to be in the national title hunt every year. Not only does it take great recruiting, but taking the talent and improving it, and neither has happened with the Vols lately. _________________ UT markets Nostalgia/Traditions rather than Wins vs Losses. --AtlantaVol |

Hell, I doubt UT accepts JUCO students any more | #3

I know some private high school kids with pretty darn high SAT scores and who were in the Top 5-10% of their private high school in Atlanta class who barely
got into UGA as FR this year. There is ZERO way the average athlete gets into a SEC school now and I would be shocked if they take JUCO's except on rare
occasions. And you can be damn sure they were NOT JUCO students with a 2.00 GPA and NO transferrable Math classes!!!!

Thanks for reminding me why I haven't clicked a link to that board in years; I'll be sure to remember that the next time I'm tempted.
Look Remus, you have to have uniform rules that cover all schools; else you will have one school (or a few schools) which set lower standards thus having an advantage over the ones with higher standards. This is why 'student athletes' are treated differently you bozo. The NCAA sets their requirements, then the conferences, then the schools...in pretty much that order. These same rules apply to all the applicable schools. If you do not have these rules, you end up with Alabama in the 60's or Oklahoma in the 80's...except all their bullshit rule bending is A-OK. Also: nothing against GW, I hope he gets to play: but if you honestly think he would be admitted to ANY SEC SCHOOL you are a brain dead moron. You seriously think he'd get into Vandy as a non athlete? Or Georgia? Seriously? Lay off the crack pipe. He would not. He would get laughed at. Now, that said: my opinion. Free GW, let the man play...who gives a shit if he can read or add 2+2. He's never going to be a rocket scientist, but he may be a helluva football player. It's a shame to deny him the opportunity. Plus, he may help UT win (which is all I really care about in this whole affair, anyway). ![]() |

I don't think he will ever get it. Every rule is discriminatory against somebody. That's why they are put in place. Not every student belongs at the
university level. There has to be a line to separate who is capable of doing work at that level and who needs to be at a less academically advanced
institution. Universities can't dummy down what they are teaching just so those who aren't capable of learning can feel good about themselves.

UT still has a direct acceptance policy agreement with the community colleges in Tennessee for those students who graduate with specific associates degrees,
but the requirements for those degrees pretty much mirror what the student would have taken at UT and a satisfactory GPA is required.
