According to the story, the U of M has indeed pulled their scholarship offer. I'd still take the kid under the condition that all will be clear on the NCAA front come August. The kid and his family must disassociate themselves from this leach immediately.

Two NCAA offices, unrelated, can investigate at two separate times. | #2

From the kid who'll go to a JUCO:
"I didn't want to mess with some of the stuff that he was talking about, like not going to our high school practices or lifting at our school and paying him to work out and for his recruiting services," Duranleau said on Thursday, referring to Butler. Unless the kid has his nouns mixed up, the kids are paying Butler. Huh? Then it talks about the possibility that Kansans might be paying for the facility. Now a related tangent: There were comments on MonVol about the lack of athletic facilities in some high schools in Memphis. If the Memphis community (note, I didn't say boosters) wanted to encourage their best athletes, and were to set up a football practice facility (Think swim club but no water) for the good of the kids, maybe more of the natural atletes in Memphis would go to football and to better futures. Since all of the beneficiaries wouldn't be expected to end up at U Memphis, where would a scenario like this fit in the Butler-NCAA-Amateur Compliance- presumption of innocence tangled web? |

Why is this guy already assumed guilty by the public? | #3
|
I understand a lot of these guys are scummy type people but at least let the guy prove he is legit. He is open to idea of investigation and says he is legit. It also takes two to tango...if he is a scumbag he has to find a coach who is willing to do the deed. As long as Kiffin is doing everything above board, I got no problem with it. As for being a leech, its not like Bryce is going to be making money for a few years so there isnt much to suck out of him right now. |

Bryce Brown is an idiot..... | #4
|
if he continues his involvement with this guy. Why does he need him? He's the GD #1 RB prospect to come out of HS since Reggie Bush! What could this Butler
guy possibly do to actually help him? He is doing nothing but tarnishing Brown's reputation.
People have the right to be stupid. Some people simply abuse that privilege.

Is Bryce Brown #1 because of what this guy has added to his high school time? | #6
|
There's no answer to this.
Butler is driving the kid to a college visit? How do prospects pay for their visits? (I can understand that the Montanas and Mannings of this world can afford for their kids to take visits to almost anywhere, but for some kids, there's no money in the family coffer.) |

I thought the schools were allowed to pay for official visits, but this is based on watching the film Johnny B. Good a long time ago.

A prospect gets 5 official visits of their choice. The school pays for their transportation to and from the school, a hotel room, and meals for 48 hours. Their
parents aren't paid for, nor any "handlers." Prospects can take as many unofficial visits--where they pay their own way--as they like.
