Vol12 and CelticVol started "Gridscape" on a cave wall in France during the Prevolozoac Era. Simple stick figures were drawn with mastodon blood. The first post from Celtic Vol was "I killed a Mastodon" and then Vol12 asked how CelticVol KNEW it was a mastodon and it may NOT have been a mastodon and CelticVol got frustrated after about 10 back-and-forths with Vol12 about whether or not it was a mastodon and then the "board" went silent for a few hundred thousand years.

The board started back up in Egypt and there was this endless debate over King Tut, whether he was past his prime or not, should he be replaced by a new King, could he turn it around, etc., etc., and when King Tut finally died (just as Atlanta Vol had predicted), then for the next thousand years the board (now on papyrus) was mainly about whether the decline and fall of Egypt was King Tut's fault or the Kings who succeeded him. Egypt was when Sandman made his first post, as I recall.

The board survived the decline and fall of Egypt and was moved to Athens. A young Socrates was a frequent poster (they actually made their posts on posters back then), but wound up committing suicide after Vol12 banned him for arguing with DAD1A (then posting as AristotleVol) too much. The real story back then was the board's testy relationship with "Sparta Insider," and AthensStud's allegations that Sparta was illegally recruiting Peloponnesian warriors. It was the Athens Gridscape board, I believe, that also featured the first-ever thread about barbeque ("Sonny's" was roundly panned), a mainstay of the board ever since.

When the board finally made it to America in 1776, we got our first Native American poster (TribeVol) but were still squabbling with Sparta Insider (now England Insider) about barbeque, football (which hadn't even been invented yet, making the intensity of the arguments all the more noteworthy), and tea. By now the board was being printed with a printing press ("Ye Olde Grydscape") and distributed across the colonies. Vol12 contined to rule with an iron fist.

Progress continued to march on, and so in the 19th century Gridscape burst onto the telegraph scene under the name "...- --- .-.. -.-. .... .- -"

I could go on and on, but the twins want dessert.

Any of you guys want to recount the early days of OM? Shit is slow as hell, and some tales of the good ole days from our founding fathers would make for some good reading for us that were late to the party.
